About the job

As Catchwise's first Product Designer, you will be the cornerstone of our product's user experience. You'll take full ownership of design, working hands-on with our CEO, developers, and sales team to transform complex data into intuitive, decision-making tools for commercial fishing crews. This is a unique opportunity to build from the ground up and see your work directly impact an entire industry.

• Ownership: Own the design process end-to-end, from discovery and wireframes to high-fidelity UI and prototypes.
• Core: Collaborate daily with the CEO/CPO and engineering to define requirements and translate ideas into shippable features.
• Users: Travel to fishing ports to conduct user research, understand customer needs, and test your designs in a real-world context.
• Maps: Simplify complex datasets—including maps, AI predictions, and historical charts—into an intuitive and powerful user experience.

Your Mission: Design for Impact

This isn't a role for polishing pixels in a large corporation. As our founding designer, you will have immense influence and autonomy. You'll be responsible for the entire user experience of Catchwise, working directly with the leadership and engineering team to solve real, tangible problems for our users. You will establish our design culture, processes, and systems from the ground up. Your work will be deployed rapidly, and you'll get immediate feedback from the hundreds of skippers who rely on our platform every day at sea.

What You'll Tackle

Your work will be varied and hands-on, directly shaping the tools that drive our customers' success.

• Mapping & Data Visualization: Design intuitive ways to visualize complex geographical, oceanographic, and vessel activity data on interactive maps.
• From Idea to UI: Partner with the CPO and engineering to rapidly prototype, iterate on new feature concepts, and deliver polished user interfaces.
• User Research at Sea: Join the team on trips to fishing ports to talk directly with skippers, understand their workflow, and validate your design hypotheses.
• Build the System: Create and evolve a practical design system that enables our small team to build high-quality, consistent features, fast.

Founded in 2023 after winning the FishAI competition, Catchwise combines AIS, catch history, oceanographic data, and machine learning into one fast, dependable platform.

The goal is straightforward: help vessels fill their quotas with less time and fuel.

We work closely with coastal communities and crews, visiting ports and vessels from Tromsø to Austevoll to Reykjavik to Bilbao. Hundreds of vessels use Catchwise every day at sea. Backed by leading Norwegian and international investors, we are expanding across Denmark, Iceland, the UK, the Faroe Islands — and more.
